Ok so one major thing that i am super excited about that happened to me over the summer was that i got my braces off.
Now I know that as soon as I got out of the orthodontist appointment where he told me “next time and they’re coming off!” i got online to research many of my questions about getting them off and i found that many people had the same questions as i did, so I’ll call this FAQ.
Question 1) THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION, DOES GETTING YOUR BRACES OFF HURT?
No, getting the braces off themselves doesn’t hurt, and…well let me just say now that none of the many things that they cram into this one appointment hurt. At all. Now I will say that some of the things they did were a little uncomfortable to experience (like grinding the glue off my teeth or taking molds, but I’ll get into those later). But here’s the procedure for taking the braces off. Keep in mind i had what were called “Speed braces” or “self ligating” braces, and i do not know if different types of braces require different types of removal. But here it goes: (you’ll find there arent many steps, in fact its really easy) The orthodontist layed me back and began at my back teeth. He took this tool and put it around the brace itself, which sounds weird and awquard to do but it was really easy. He then just sqeased his hand and the brace and the glue snapped, and no it didnt go flying all around my mouth it stayed in place because they dont take the wire out before, so it all comes out in one piece. He put the tool around every brace and painlessly snipped the off easy as that. Once all the top row or all the bottom row was done being “snipped” he just used his fingers to pick one brace up and the whole row came out- easy as that. PAINLESS!! It’s so easy that this guy took his out all by his self. Here is the YouTube link.
Question 2) DOES GETTIN THE REMAINING GLUE “DRILLED” OFF YOUR TEETH HURT?
Again, no. Well, technically it doesn’t, but it does…well the only way i can explain it is that it occassionally sends pulses through your nervous that make my teeth fell sensitive, which i didnt like. I know that that whole thing probably didnt make sence, but that is the only way i can explain it. Ill say this, I am a closterphobic kind of guy and those sensitive pulses didnt bother me too much, so if i can bear through it, you can.
Lastly, Question 3) DOES IT FEEL WEIRD HAVING THEM OFF?
The answer to this one is tricky, the answer is yes and no. Some people say that your teeth feel slimy and gross, but felt no such thing. Maybe i was feeling it, but didnt know it, so no my teeth didnt feel weird. But you will have newfound confidence knowing that your teeth are straight. You will WANT to take pictures because you want to show them off, and because of the face that you yourself arent used to the sight of the new you, and you feel that you sorta look good.
ok a few random things:
I like this video. It is one of a guy getting his off and it shows it in a really cool way. Supermac18 is pretty cool. check this out. (oh and he has a little trouble getting molds, but i had none at all)
And remember, you have your braces off, so smile! :D
